** March Membership Meeting: Discussing Women's History & Health

** Anhthu Hoang Discussing Community Engagement and Research Practices at the New York Academy of Sciences
------------------------------------------------------------

Anhthu Hoang will be speaking on the Building Trust through Representation: Community Engagement and Research Practices panel as part of the New York Academy of Sciences’ Ethics and Equity: Navigating Inclusive Excellence in Healthcare and Health Research conference on Tuesday, March 25th. Her panel will start at 11:00 AM and be moderated by Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Professor of Population Health Science and Policy Carol R. Horowitz, MD, MPH. Fellow panelists include Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine Associate Professor of Medicine Dr. Carl Streed, Jr.; Vanderbilt University Medical Center Professor of Medicine Consuelo H. ** Cameron Clarke Discussing Community and Public Health Partnerships

Cameron Clarke will be speaking on a Community and Public Health Partnerships panel at 2:20 PM on Friday, March 14th as part of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Clinical Climate Conference. The panel will be moderated by Professor of Environmental Medicine and Pediatrics (and long-time WE ACT Member) Perry Sheffield, MD, MPH, and Cameron will be joined by fellow panelists East Harlem Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) Co-Founder, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Associate Professor of Medical Education Ann-Gel S. Palermo, DrPH and COAD Co-Founder and Disaster Liaison for the East Carol Johnson. Held in the school’s Goldwurm Auditorium, located at 1425 Madison Avenue, this day-long event is open to the public, though there is a fee. ** REPLAY: Advocacy Tools to Fight Pollution and Protect Community Health

We co-hosted a webinar with Columbia University’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law ([link removed]) to present new tools and insight to help community advocates navigate complex bureaucratic, political, and legal arenas to fight fossil fuel infrastructure and develop protective community benefit agreements. Lonnie Portis and Annie Carforo explained the HEAP ([link removed]) program to New York Amsterdam News ([link removed]) for an article on the sudden loss of funding for this home energy assistance program during one of the coldest weeks in recent memory. They also made the case for why New York needs to pass the NY HEAT Act ([link removed]) , which will help lower home energy costs.

Yosef Robele co-authored a Climate Law ([link removed]) blog post with Olivia Guarna, Climate Justice Fellow at the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, on the advocacy tools to fight fossil fuels webinar ([link removed]) we recently held with them.

In its Black History Month and the Environmental Justice Movement ([link removed]) blog post, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network ([link removed]) listed WE ACT as one of the organizations to support for environmental justice.

** Rest In Power: Dr. Hazel Dukes

We mourn the loss of Dr. Hazel N. Dukes, long-time civil rights activist and long-serving President of the NAACP New York State Conference. She fought tirelessly for voting rights, fair housing, and economic development.
