Dear Neighbor,
As we head deeper into March, I’m energized by the vision Speaker Adrienne Adams laid out in her State of the City address — a vision centered on investing in our communities and delivering real solutions. From expanding childcare for working families and enhancing access to libraries to boosting funding for CUNY, fueling minority-owned small business growth, and ensuring nonprofits receive timely payments, the Speaker’s plan of action reflects the urgent needs of New Yorkers. I’m excited to continue working alongside my colleagues to turn these proposals into reality, ensuring that every investment strengthens our city and uplifts the people who call it home.
If you missed Speaker Adams' SOTC address, I encourage you to watch it on the City Council website or check out the highlights on our social media channels.
Keep reading to catch up on all the highlights from February, including community tours, City Hall updates, district events, and valuable resources! Stay tuned for more information about this month's preliminary budget hearings. And as always, my office is here for you—don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-792-1140.

As your Council Member, I’ve been fighting to bring vital resources to our community, and I’m proud to see the new AT&T Connected Learning Center open its doors at Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. This center equips Bronx families with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world, offering free Wi-Fi, computers, digital printers, and more to bridge the digital divide!

I had an amazing time sponsoring NYC Parks' Winter Festival at Soundview Park. Families and children enjoyed a day full of fun activities, from arts and crafts to giant slides, bounce houses, and of course, hot chocolate and apple cider! I'm so glad we could celebrate the season with joy and laughter!

The Bronx Tourism Council’s annual Savor the Bronx Restaurant Week was a resounding success! With 70+ restaurants offering special deals and discounts, it was truly a feast for the senses. I embarked on my own foodie adventure, exploring District 18’s standout dining gems — Barrio BX, Lava Rock Kitchen, and Mi Tierra —and every bite was more delicious than the last!

The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure held hearings on two of my bills -- Introduction 676 and Resolution 80 -- key measures to drive sustainability and accessibility in NYC's for-hire vehicle industry. Intro 676 calls on the TLC to study the exp ansion of electric FHVs, while Reso 80 calls on the state to create a surcharge to fund wheelchair accessible and all-electric FHVs.

I joined Speaker Adrienne Adams and the Council leadership team in Albany to discuss state budget priorities with Governor Kathy Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and NYS Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. We're advocating for resources to strengthen NYC's communities. We're excited to build on this partnership and continue delivering for New Yorkers.

Alongside Council Member Julie Won, I led a critical joint hearing on Food Quality in NYC Shelters, focusing on accountability: How are subcontractors selected? Are dietary standards met? How are deficiencies addressed? Unhoused individuals in our shelters are in one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives—they deserve nutritious, culturally appropriate meals.
