Dear john,
This week, I attended President Trump's joint address to Congress. While I continue to be concerned about the dangerous proposals from his Administration, I am more resolved than ever to fight for the protection of the benefits you have paid into, like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. And I remain opposed to radical cuts to programs and agencies which serve the American people.
In response to the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) decision to conduct mass layoffs, I joined with 134 of my colleagues in demanding answers from IRS officials and to provide Congress with a plan to ensure timely tax processing and strengthen enforcement capabilities to prevent the wealthy from dodging their taxes. To learn more about these efforts and to read our letter to the IRS, please click here.
I also reintroduced legislation this week to support affordable ways for young people to pursue a career in aviation. The Aviation Workforce Development Act will make training at FAA-certified commercial pilot and aircraft maintenance technician schools a qualified expense for 529 college savings plans. To read more about this legislation, you can read this press release from my office.
It is always a pleasure to welcome Georgians to my office in Washington. This week, I was honored to visit with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters as they conducted legislative advocacy meetings on Capitol Hill. We discussed the importance of local media and their critical role in sharing community news and public safety information.
