Dear John,

This is Josh Weil, FL-6 candidate, and father to two boys. Lately I have been thinking about how our state has been shaped, and how I can best serve you in office. We only have 4 weeks to make our goals a reality this special election cycle, and I cannot stress enough how important it is we work together. ([link removed])

It has been five years since COVID-19 first reshaped our lives, and Florida is still feeling the impact. The pandemic exposed deep vulnerabilities in our public health system, economy, and education. Instead of learning from the crisis, our state and federal leadership has doubled down on partisan culture wars, prioritizing power over people.

Governor DeSantis used emergency powers during the pandemic to consolidate authority, a pattern that has continued beyond the crisis. His administration has weakened public health policies, undermined trust in science, and fostered extreme partisanship—all while taking credit for federal relief funds he once opposed. Now, with those funds gone, Florida faces economic uncertainty. On top of that, Trump and Musk have destroyed the integrity of our federal jobs.

Education has also suffered. Pandemic disruptions led to declines in student performance, and instead of addressing these challenges, state leaders expanded private school vouchers, diverting billions from public schools. Meanwhile, partisan attacks on curriculum and school boards have made education more divisive than ever. As an educator, this has become an integral part of my platform for a reason, and it is because I have seen this first hand within my district.

The pandemic accelerated political shifts in Florida, turning it from a battleground state into a Republican stronghold. However, that does not mean we should give up on fighting for accountability, transparency, and policies that put people first.

To be frank, I need your help. Considering Florida’s chronology, our campaign has been continually tag-teamed by Trump and the GOP - let’s flip this seat and show them up. As an educator and congressional candidate, I believe we must prioritize rebuilding trust in our institutions, investing in education, and ensuring our government serves its citizens—not just political ambitions. We have the opportunity to shape a future that learns from past mistakes instead of repeating them.

Let’s work together to build a Florida that puts people first. If you’re ready for leadership that fights for all Floridians, I hope to earn your support.

Best,
Josh Weil
