Let’s be clear: this isn’t about budgets. It’s a healthcare purge. Kicking families off their healthcare is about giving tax breaks to corporations and big donors - not efficiency.
Right now, elected officials are negotiating behind closed doors, deciding whether millions will lose Medicaid. The House and Senate are finalizing their budget plans by negotiating on whether to gut Medicaid or protect the care that keeps families afloat.
We have a small window to stop this. Lawmakers need to hear from you now—before the deal is done. Your voice can pressure them to reject these cuts before it’s too late.
These cuts will force seniors out of their homes, rip healthcare from children, and leave care workers uninsured. We won’t be fooled by their baseless attacks on people who receive their healthcare through Medicaid - the vast majority ARE working, including as care workers, and nearly everyone else are students, retired, ill, disabled, or primary caregivers to their own families.
If these anti-care electeds succeed, the consequences will be devastating:
- 7 million of our aging loved ones rely on Medicaid to receive long-term care in their own homes. Nearly two in three seniors in nursing homes receive their care through Medicaid. Without Medicaid, millions of seniors will lose access to the care they need.
- Nearly half of children with disabilities rely on Medicaid. If these cuts go through, their families will be left scrambling to pay for life-saving care.
- States will be forced to cut essential services, including rural hospitals and children’s health programs. By shifting costs to states, they’ll have little choice but to reduce benefits, cut provider payments, or drop coverage altogether.
- Care workers—nannies, house cleaners, home care workers—rely on Medicaid too. Many don’t get health insurance through their jobs. Without Medicaid, they’ll be left with nothing.
We must do everything we can to stop this—but we have to act now. Every call, email, and tweet puts pressure on lawmakers to do the right thing. Make your voice heard and tell Congress: Protect Medicaid NOW.
We know exactly what happens when elected officials gut Medicaid.
- In 2018, Arkansas became the first state to implement work reporting rules. The results? Over 18,000 people lost coverage in just seven months, many of whom were still eligible.
- In Georgia, state officials implemented a restrictive program in 2023 that requires recipients to prove they work or volunteer 80 hours a month. The result? 99% of the people who should have had Medicaid healthcare were instead locked out.
When you look at the numbers, it’s clear this isn’t about work. It’s about targeting the most hardworking and vulnerable among us by putting care further out of reach - all to give tax breaks to billionaires.
We can’t let them get away with it. When Congress sees thousands of messages flooding in, they know we’re watching—and they know we’ll hold them accountable.
