Tomorrow is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the power and resilience of women both in the U.S. and abroad. Here at URGE, we’re focusing our celebrations on trans women and femmes, who continue to fight for their right to exist and thrive.
Trans women are women. Point. Blank. Period. Yet across the world, and here in the U.S., our trans sisters and femmes are being attacked for simply wanting to live their most authentic lives. From politicians pushing anti-trans laws that will bar trans people from accessing lifesaving healthcare, to discriminatory executive orders that further the Trump Administration’s transphobic agenda, trans women- particularly Black and Brown women- are facing systemic violence and attempts of erasure.

No law or executive order can define anyone’s right to exist, and everyone, including trans women and femmes, deserve to express themselves freely without the fear of violence or discrimination. |

Let us be clear that all day and every day, we’re committed to the fight for trans liberation. No law or executive order can define anyone’s right to exist, and everyone, including trans women and femmes, deserve to express themselves freely without the fear of violence or discrimination. So, on this International Women’s Day, let’s work towards building a reproductive justice movement that centers and supports trans women. Because a world that doesn’t uplift trans women is a world that fails us all.

Here’s how you can take action today:
✅Push back against transphobic legislation by contacting your representatives and letting them know that you support trans people’s right to live freely, and advocate for policies that protect trans people.
✅Share Lamba Legal’s identity documents checklist for trans, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, and intersex people for folks who are being impacted by the Trump Administration’s rollback on LGBTQIA+ rights.
✅Challenge anti-trans rhetoric by debunking misinformation and having conversations with friends, family, classmates, and your neighbors.
✅Support and follow trans-led organizations, including the Transgender Law Center, the Gender Liberation Movement, the Trans Futures Collective, and the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition.
|
Together, we can build a future where trans women and femmes can live safely and be celebrated for who they are. |
