President Trump’s address on Tuesday night sent a resounding message to the nation and the entire world: America is back. For more than 90 minutes – a new record for an address given to a joint session of Congress – the president brought the heat, spoke with conviction, and detailed his vision for America. He also highlighted an impressive set of wins that his administration has achieved in such a short period of time. A CBS/YouGov poll that was released immediately after the president’s address showed that nearly 80 percent of those who watched it held a favorable opinion.

Here are just a handful of powerful excerpts from the address that I believe are worth highlighting:

“Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the golden age of America. From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country.”

“We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years. And we are just getting started."

“The media and our friends in the Democrat party kept saying, ‘We needed new legislation. We must have legislation to secure the border,’ but it turned out that all we really needed was a new president.”

"My fellow Americans, get ready for an incredible future, because the golden age of America has only just begun. It will be like nothing that has ever been seen before.”

“This will be our greatest era. With God's help over the next four years, we are going to lead this nation even higher. And we are going to forge the freest, most advanced, most dynamic and most dominant civilization ever to exist on the face of this Earth.”

Like President Trump and my Republican colleagues, I’ll keep fighting to ensure America remains on a strong, prosperous path. I look forward to highlighting even more of our wins in future newsletters to you. Yes, America is truly back.

Recognizing Secretary Driscoll

Recently, Dan Driscoll, a native of Boone, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Secretary of the Army. Dan has strong roots in North Carolina’s 5th District, and I’m confident that many of our area’s current and future leaders will look upon him as a shining example of a salt of the earth public servant who acts upon principle. He’s someone who we can count on to lead the Army in the right way and for the right reasons. His confirmation adds to a growing list of wins not only for President Trump, but also for the entire country. I look forward to following his work, and hearing of the strides he will make in his new position.

A Fact Check

Since House Republicans passed our budget resolution, Washington Democrats have made a litany of false claims and accusations that they can’t back up. One such claim is that Medicaid benefits are being slashed in this budget resolution – yet Medicaid is not mentioned a single time in the budget resolution’s text. In fact, there are no programmatic assumptions or cuts at all. The Daily Caller published a good article about this very issue, and it’s certainly worth your time to read. As always, it remains vital that we pursue the facts and cut through the noise.

Quote of The Week

No dream is too big. No challenge is too great. Nothing we want for our future is beyond our reach.
