Friend,
Have you had enough of soft-on-crime policies that benefit repeat offenders, while hurting victims and endangering our communities? I know I sure have. But so have our neighbors, and they’re ready for change.
When extremist politicians tried to close our juvenile jail and release violent offenders into unsecured homes in our neighborhood, I stood up, with all of you, to put a stop to that reckless policy. And we succeeded! My legislation to keep the juvenile jail open passed the council unanimously.

More recently, when transit operators from across King County stood up and said they had had enough of the policy failures creating an environment of extreme danger for bus drivers, I listened. I introduced legislation, at the request of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 587, to create a transit safety task force to develop new ideas for improving safety on public transit and in the communities in which it operates.
I’m honored to announce that, earlier this week, my legislation was passed unanimously by the King County Council. The message our legislation sent was clear— the days of non-existent fare enforcement, negligible codes of conduct, and minimal police presence on our public transit systems are over.
Now, after years of ignoring the concerns of bus drivers and transit riders, our county government will finally start doing what I have long advocated for: restoring safety and accountability, not just on public transit, but for all residents in King County.
Our work is just beginning, but I can promise you this – with your help, the days of ignoring our public safety crisis are over. Transit operators and King County residents have had enough and asked for our support; they deserve our support, and this legislation is a step in the right direction.
