Tuesday night, Donald Trump addressed a Joint session of Congress. I refused to be there. I could not sit by and listen as he praised himself for attempts to gut Medicaid, dismantle Social Security, end vital programs for working families, and destroy our democracy.

The cost of living is rising, federal workers are losing their jobs at a rapid rate, essential social programs are being dismantled, all to give tax cuts to the wealthy. My democratic colleagues and I will continue to resist, fight back in the courts, and defend our democracy.
