John, I'm heartbroken.
This week, protests have taken place all throughout the nation โ Minneapolis, Louisville, Los Angeles, Atlanta โ to speak out against the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the senseless violence that Black people have faced at the hands of police for generations.
This weekend, protests also happened in Brooklyn. Thousands of demonstrators started to peacefully make their way throughout the city calling for police accountability and justice. But the NYPD began to violently arrest people protesting this inhumanity, even taking over city buses to transport protesters that they've arrested to jail.
This is unacceptable, John, and we need to take action. That's why I'm asking today if you will join me in making a donation to the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund. 100% of what you give will go towards freeing as many people as possible, as soon as possible.

One of the reasons I decided to run for Congress was because we need justice reform at every level โ state, local, and federal. Eliminating cash bail is a crucial part of my platform.
Bail perpetuates racial and economic inequities in our criminal justice system. Thousands of people shouldn't languish in jail simply because they are too poor or too Black, while millionaires and billionaires can simply purchase freedom.
Bail funds like the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund make sure that the protesters who were arrested this weekend aren't being left in jail. Please join me in supporting by making a donation to the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund today.
In solidarity,
Jamaal Bowman
