Hi John, welcome to the March edition of our newsletter! Going forward, you’ll find updates from The Sister District Dispatch and our States and Stats newsletters here.
Every month, we will continue to share updates on the important work we’re doing to build enduring political power in states across the country and keep you informed about what role you can play to fight for a progressive future.
Thank you for being a critical part of our grassroots community. ❤️

Our volunteer teams have been busy — showing up in communities across the nation to protest and raise critical awareness about Trump’s dangerous agenda. With Republicans in control of Washington, we will need a powerful line of defense in our state legislatures to safeguard elections, advance voting rights, protect reproductive rights, and more!
In California, our South Bay team recently hosted an “It Starts With States Coffee Hour.” The event was a resounding success! They hosted 50 like-minded activists — many of whom were recruited during the People’s March — and used the time to write postcards and identify potential phonebankers, cooks, and event planners as we look ahead to what 2025 will bring.
|
Earlier this year, we relaunched our Future Winners program in partnership with Emily’s List and the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee to invest in exceptional state legislative candidates who came close but didn’t quite cross the finish line.
Rather than treating candidates as one-time contenders, Future Winners recognizes them as leaders on a trajectory of power. Our 2025 cohort includes 26 former candidates who reflect the diverse future of progressive leadership, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and those from low-income and immigrant backgrounds.
By supporting these future changemakers, we’re ensuring their voices — and the communities they represent — continue to shape the political landscape.

👥 Recapping our annual staff retreat
|
Last month, our team held its annual staff retreat, where we discussed our big plans for this year and beyond!
|
During the retreat, our team worked to foster stronger relationships, engage in professional development, and strategically revamp our 10-year state strategy — a blueprint of our vision for the next decade. We'll keep you updated as we continue to refine our plans for this year and the future!
