Dear John,
Today is the deadline to file a comment with the FCC about their baseless "news distortion" investigation of CBS. Almost 10,000 people have taken action at NoFCCSpeechPolice.org. Will you join them before it's too late?
-
Free speech
- Freedom of the press
-
Editorial independence
-
Free expression
These are the First Amendment cornerstones that are on the line as FCC Chair Brendan Carr treats the agency like an attack dog that goes after any media outlet the Trump administration doesn't like.
But the heat is on, and our collective outrage is working. Just today, legislators introduced the Broadcast Freedom and Independence Act which would, "prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from revoking
broadcast licenses or taking action against broadcasters based on the
viewpoints they broadcast." (5) And we've joined a coalition of 20 civil rights groups that today sent a letter to Carr expressing our deep concerns about his actions, and urging him to reaffirm the FCC's role as, "an impartial regulator that protects — not polices — media freedom." (6)
We must do our part to ensure that the FCC remains an independent agency and NOT a political weapon. Join the fight by filing a comment at NoFCCSpeechPolice.org today.
Sincerely,
Hally at ❤️Fight
John,
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is investigating CBS over claims raised by President Trump that their editing of a Kamala Harris interview was deceptive. We cannot allow the FCC–an independent, nonpartisan agency–to be used by Trump as a weapon to target his foes. Tell the FCC that it must honor its responsibility to uphold free speech and freedom of the press.
Take Action
Trump first accused CBS of “A FAKE NEWS SCAM” back in October 2024 and called for the network’s license to be revoked. Then FCC Chair, Jessica Rosenworcel, rejected President Trump’s complaints and stated that “…threats against free speech are serious and should not be ignored… The FCC does not and will not revoke licenses for broadcast stations simply because a political candidate disagrees with or dislikes content or coverage.”1
When Trump’s FCC Chair (and co-author of Project 2025) Brendan Carr took office, he reinstated the investigation in a manner which FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez called “unprecedented and reckless.”2 Carr has also promised to investigate media outlets like NPR and PBS3 in a blatant attempt to silence journalism that’s critical of the Trump administration.
The public has until March 7, 2025 to file comments on this action. We must flood the FCC with comments demanding that the FCC protect drop this investigation and uphold their duty to protect the First Amendment.
File A Comment
Journalists and media outlets must be allowed to report the news without undue interference or government overreach. Join us in demanding that the FCC protect the public interest, not the interest of the White House.
In solidarity,
Hally at ❤️ Fight
