A handful of multimillionaire Republicans in Congress are rewriting tax laws that could personally make them millions. If their plan succeeds, they and their wealthy donors will walk away with staggering tax cuts, while the rest of us are left with higher deficits, gutted public services, and an even more rigged economy.

Our new report has laid bare just how corrupt and self-serving this scheme is. The Republicans in charge of tax policy are worth an average of $15 million apiece.[1] The families of the wealthiest six among them could personally pocket up to $24.6 million in tax breaks if they succeed in extending Trump’s corporate giveaway tax law.

This isn’t just bad policy, it’s a heist. The 2017 Trump-GOP tax cuts they want to make permanent added trillions to the national debt―threatening funding for vital services like healthcare, education, and housing―while slashing taxes for billionaires and major corporations.

• Nine of them have a net worth over $10 million. The vice-chair alone is worth nearly a quarter-billion dollars.

• They are giving themselves tax breaks while taking services away from the rest of us. If their plan succeeds, the wealthiest six members of the committee will personally collect $1.8 million a year in income tax breaks—and when they pass down their massive fortunes, their heirs could dodge $22.8 million in estate taxes.
