THE FORUM DAILY

Recent policy changes, including those on immigration, have turned the American economic outlook gloomier, report Ben Casselman and Colby Smith of The New York Times.

Economists affirm that deporting millions of immigrants could be even more detrimental than economic policies such as tariffs, especially considering current labor shortages in key industries like construction and healthcare, Casselman and Smith note.

Amid mass deportation efforts, the dairy industry has raised concerns about the impact that immigration policy changes could have on their businesses and its consumers. A study of the National Milk Producers Federation indicates that removing immigrant labor would lead to a 90% increase in retail milk prices, reports Adam Yamaguchi of CBS Evening News.

Tadeo Ruiz Sandoval and Cristal Sanchez of KCUR/ KBIA report on how ICE raid rumors affect local economies in Missouri.

"Basically, the community climate that is negative towards newcomers or immigrants has a negative effect on their participation in the economy," said Corinne Valdivia, a researcher at University of Missouri.

Separately, construction industry leaders expressed concerns on a new immigration bill in Utah that could worsen the labor shortages in their sector, reports Megan Banta of The Salt Lake Tribune.

Meanwhile, a business coalition launched an initiative asking the White House and Congress to protect and provide legal pathways to immigrant workers, reports Maria Villarroel of The Latin Times.
