From The Desk Of Dr. Rasha Khoury. Happy International Women's Day

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been a part of my life since my childhood. Growing up in East Jerusalem in the occupied Palestinian territories, violence was a fact of life; MSF’s independent medical care was a lifeline.

By the time I was 10 years old, I decided that I was going to become a doctor. I wanted to practice humanitarianism and stand in solidarity with women and others affected by war, poverty, climate destruction, and epidemics. I went to medical school and became an OB-GYN. My first assignment with MSF was in 2014, where I worked with expectant mothers in Sierra Leone.

Making sure women have access to the care they need has always been a cornerstone of my work as an OB-GYN and now as president of MSF USA’s Board of Directors.

In celebration of International Women’s Day tomorrow, I invite you to learn more about our work delivering medical care to women and girls in over 70 countries around the world—made possible by supporters like you.

I am honored to serve as president of MSF USA’s Board of Directors, and I’m excited to support the breadth of MSF’s lifesaving work together. And perhaps, we might even inspire a little girl somewhere to think about how she can make a difference, too.
