Do Age-Verification Laws Work? Not According To This Study
A new study from NYU’s Center for Social Media & Politics confirms what free speech advocates have long argued— *age-verification laws don’t work.* The research found that while Pornhub traffic dropped in states with these laws, searches for unregulated platforms and VPNs surged. While addressing NCII is important, critics warn that in the current political climate, this law is more likely to be weaponized against opponents than enforced fairly. Given the administration’s history of selective enforcement and favoritism toward major tech platforms, there’s little reason to believe it will be applied consistently—or effectively protect those it claims to help.
