This International Women's Day, we're celebrating the unstoppable, changemaking and totally badass women in the Surfers Against Sewage community.

These women are marching forward. Fighting for cleaner coastlines and rivers. And empowering others within their communities to do the same. ✊✊✊

Meet a few of them below…

Dale & Jenny, Plastic Free Thatcham & Newbury

"Seeing the impact of plastic pollution on our natural spaces makes us realise that we all have a part to play. It’s inspiring to see habits shifting and local businesses proudly adopt plastic-free practices. More than anything, it’s the sense of community. Every conversation, every plastic-free pledge reminds us that positive change is not only possible but happening right now."

Megan, SAS rep in Cornwall

“I became an SAS rep because I wanted change. I want to better my community, educate others, and protect our oceans and everything within it. I’ve experienced first-hand the detriment polluted waters can have on animals and the environment. With SAS I will continue to make a positive impact through advocacy and action.”

Carol, Plastic Free Cheltenham lead

"I was appalled by the amount of plastic packaging in the supermarket. So I am working with local businesses, community organisations and schools to reduce the use of single-use plastics in Cheltenham - all with the support of SAS. By taking on this role I have become far more aware of the scale and impact of the plastic pollution problem and am grateful for the opportunity to help resolve it."

Skye, Plastic Free campaigner

"When I was 10 years old I started my campaign to remove cheap plastic toys and plastic packaging from kids comics and magazines. SAS was the first organisation to support me and four years later, they are still there giving help, support and incredible opportunities.

Through SAS, I have been given the platform to help inspire thousands of other young people across the country to stand up, use their voices and take action, no matter how small, to make positive change.”
