Last week, the Trump Administration continued taking a sledgehammer to the federal government by firing more than 880 workers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This move will have disastrous consequences for Washington state, and all Americans. With these firings, the administration is jeopardizing:
- Our ability to forecast and prepare for extreme weather events like wildfires and hurricanes, and natural disasters like tsunamis.
- Safe navigation of ships through waterways.
- Farmers’ access to data necessary for managing their crops.
- Critical research on the changing climate.
- Maritime commerce and the 1.7 million jobs that depend on fisheries.
In short, drastically cutting NOAA staff hurts our economy, and directly jeopardizes the safety of the American public.
We can’t let this stand. Please join me in calling for NOAA workers to be protected from these disastrous cuts:
Thanks for taking action. We must stay vigilant.
