The U.S. Census Bureau has completed the 2025Q1 release of Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) data. QWI provide local labor market statistics by industry, worker demographics, firm age, and size. Explore release highlights below. 

Hires

In 2023Q4, there were 514,992 hires nationwide in the Accommodation and Food Services industry (NAICS 72) for workers aged 25-34. This is a decrease of 4.57% from the same quarter last year.

New Jersey and Delaware were among the areas with the largest decrease in hires in the Accommodation and Food Services industry (NAICS 72) for workers aged 25-34.

Separations

In 2023Q4, there were 573,499 separations nationwide in the Accommodation and Food Services industry (NAICS 72) for workers aged 25-34. This is a decrease of 3.03% from the same quarter last year.

Puerto Rico and California were among the areas with the largest decrease in separations in the Accommodation and Food Services industry (NAICS 72) for workers aged 25-34.

The QWI are a set of economic indicators including employment, job creation, earnings, and other measures of employment flows. The QWI are reported based on detailed firm characteristics (geography, industry, age, size) and worker demographics (sex, age, education, race, ethnicity) and are available tabulated to national, state, metropolitan/micropolitan areas, county, and Workforce Investment Board areas.

The latest available National QWI data in the R2025Q1 release is 2024Q1, which lags the latest available state QWI data by one quarter. State QWI are released individually on a rolling basis throughout the calendar quarter with production expected to be completed by the last day of the quarter. In the event that data submission or data quality issues are encountered, QWI production for a state may be delayed or skipped for one or several quarters until the issue can be resolved.
