Dear friend,

Last month marked seven years since the tragic day that changed our lives forever.

Seven years without them—seven years pushing for change.

Ever since our children, spouses, and loved were murdered at school—we have turned our grief and resilience to elentless advocacy to ensure that no other family endures the pain we live with every day.

Anniversaries like this are difficult. The pain never fades—it just becomes part of you. But through that pain, we’ve found purpose.

Honoring Their Memory

On the seventh anniversary, the state of Florida officially recognized Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Memorial Day.

We will remember the 17 lives stolen and the countless others forever impacted by the horrific tragedy at MSD High School in Parkland, FL. This official recognition is a meaningful step in ensuring their memories are honored and never forgotten.

We are deeply grateful to Representative Christine Hunschofsky of Parkland, FL, and Florida Speaker of the House Danny Perez for making this possible. As we honor those we lost, we also renew our commitment to working toward safer schools and communities.

Florida School Safety Summit 2025

Attending the Florida School Safety Summit was a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Leaders, educators, and advocates came together with one shared goal: to protect our children. We were especially grateful to stand alongside SWP Board Member Ryan Petty, father of Alaina and Vice Chair of the Florida State Board of Education. His unwavering dedication to school safety continues to drive meaningful change, ensuring every student has a secure place to learn.

We also appreciate the leadership of Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, whose commitment to protecting students, educators, and school communities was evident at the summit and extended throughout the year. And we recognize NTAC Chief Dr. Lina Alathari for her expertise in advancing safety and prevention strategies.

Each conversation, every policy change, and all the work ahead is driven by a simple but urgent truth: our children deserve safe schools.

Pushing for Change in 2025

While February was a painful month for us, we refused to let our heartbreak define us. Instead, we use it as fuel to push forward. Here’s what we’ve been working on:

MSD Act – Measures for Safer School Districts Act
Requires notification to families of threats to schools and reinforces school doors to help keep students and teachers safe.

SASS Act – Single Application for School Safety Act
Cuts red tape so schools can access critical safety funding faster, covering security cameras, intercoms, crisis training, and more.

EAGLES Act
Expands national efforts to prevent targeted violence before it happens—protecting schools, workplaces, and houses of worship.

We’ve partnered with Florida Representatives Jared Moskowitz and Mario Diaz-Balart to introduce bipartisan legislation that prioritizes school safety, improves emergency notification systems, and ensures that students, teachers, and families are protected.

But our fight doesn’t stop here—we are committed to working with leaders on both sides of the aisle to pass policies that keep our schools and communities safe. Because school safety isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a responsibility we ALL share.
