Hey Friend,
Donald Trump’s address this week was a dangerous preview of his delusions for the next few years.
Despite his constant stream of attacks, we have not stopped demanding change from those in power - and getting results, no matter how small.
In the Trump era, information is power, and we will continue to inform you. So here’s what you need to know:

“Trump vows to press ahead on reshaping America in speech to Congress as Democrats register dissent” - AP News
WHAT’S HAPPENING: This week, Donald Trump addressed Congress about his plans and how he will implement them over the next four years. He doubled down on his attacks on gender-affirming care, claiming schools are indoctrinating students with a woke agenda, and called climate policy the “Green New Scam.” His vision for America benefits him and him alone - young people’s futures are at risk with his policy.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: Of course, we’re not surprised he took this as an opportunity to boast his corruption, but we are fed up with Donald Trump’s appeasing the wealthy and not what’s actually best for us. His work this week was proof that he only wants to entertain his supporters, not converse about the issues that are affecting the new generation of voters.
WHAT CAN YOU DO: In these addresses, young people are typically forgotten about – despite them feeling the repercussions of Trump’s presidency more than any other generation. So we want to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts about Donald Trump’s first address here:

“We're a country of no kings” - Maxwell Frost
WHAT’S HAPPENING: When Donald Trump called himself a King, Rep. Maxwell Frost knew he needed to take action. This is why during Trump’s address, he wore a “No Kings” t-shirt and walked out as a sign of protest. This is not a normal time in history, Friend - we are a democracy, not a monarchy. Frost’s act of protest was a signal to look at the “progress” Trump made - he’s cutting social security and other critical programs, he’s giving Elon Musk free rein in our government, and he’s attacking LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive rights! This is an overt abuse of power, and it’s time we fight back.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: Donald Trump is hellbent on destroying critical programs, but young people across the country have joined Democrats like Maxwell Frost in protesting the blatant corruption that Donald Trump is encouraging. The protests that have taken place since Trump’s re-election are messages of resistance to combat the oligarchy that threatens our futures more than any other generation. Maxwell Frost and other members of Congress are paving a new path of dissent, and are embracing the role as the opposition party.
WHAT CAN YOU DO: We understand the power young people hold. Our mission is to promote climate, economic, and racial justice through our civic engagement work. We invite you to join our community and follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on organizing opportunities. Remember, civic engagement begins at the ballot box, but community organizing, advocacy, and aligned action are required to usher in the transformational change we are here to bring about. Democrats and many turnout organizations completely overlooked the youth vote, relying on a simplistic view that millions of young people would simply vote for Democrats without proper messaging.
|
In 2024, youth turnout was at an all-time low, and 10% of young voters even flipped for Trump. The lesson? Democrats lost the plot, and if they're serious about getting things done, they need to win back young voters.
Too often, this voting bloc is completely overlooked, but as our Executive Director Corryn G. Freeman put it in her new COURIER op-ed, we are not an afterthought. To read more from Corryn, click here!
