Trump and Musk have unleashed a set of unprecedented attacks on Social
Security that threaten benefits for millions of Americans.

Musk called Social Security a “ponzi scheme” and a giant “scam.”^1,2 Then,
Trump repeated Musk’s lies about rampant fraud in Social Security at his
joint address to Congress on Tuesday. This disinformation and the mass
firing of Social Security workers is all groundwork to steal benefits away
from seniors.

After Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) team started
firing employees at the Social Security Administration (SSA) and closing
field offices, The American Prospect reported that the Trump
administration is seeking a fifty percent reduction in the SSA workforce^3
— a devastating blow to the program and all beneficiaries.

Trump has repeatedly said that he wouldn’t “touch” Social Security.^4 Yet,
DOGE is discarding the workers and offices that serve beneficiaries and
Trump is parroting far-right conspiracies about Social Security.

DOGE is executing its playbook at SSA just like it did at USAID, the CFPB,
EPA, FAA, and other agencies: spread propaganda, fire thousands of
workers, and hobble government services.

We need to fight for Social Security right now, before Musk and DOGE delay
and cut benefits for millions of seniors.
