Trump’s administration has already begun housing detained migrants at Guantánamo Bay — a site infamous for torture, human rights abuses, and indefinite imprisonment in violation of due process.

He’s reportedly planning to expand Guantánamo so it can hold tens of thousands of people. We cannot let this happen, and we can’t let our lawmakers aid and abet this injustice.

Information on Trump’s repurposing of Guantánamo Bay Details is being kept quiet, but what we do know is deeply alarming. Migrants from dozens of countries have already been detained at Guantánamo Bay's prison, which was first built to house accused 9/11 attackers. Some of these migrants have even been forcibly deported, not to their home country, to countries they’ve never been to.

We must demand the Congress reject any attempts to use taxpayer dollars to expand the cruel detention center at Guantánamo Bay. It would be a shameful waste of hundreds of millions of dollars that should be used to fix our immigration system and support our communities.

Housing thousands of foreign nationals in a glorified internment camp is undemocratic. The risks of abuse, indefinite detention, and severe trauma are undeniable. We need to stop this before it escalates.
