Democrats Want More Felons—This Time for Environmental Violations
Washington Senate Democrats passed a bill ramping up penalties for environmental violations, because apparently, we don’t have enough people facing felony charges. ESSB 5360 expands criminal liability to businesses, cities, and agencies, punishing them for the actions of employees—even if the violation was unintentional. Republicans tried to add common sense, like making first offenses a misdemeanor, but Democrats weren’t interested in reasonable enforcement. GOP Sen. John Braun pointed out the obvious: this bill will make it even harder to build anything in Washington, which is already drowning in red tape. Meanwhile, GOP Sen. Jeff Holy warned that the last thing this state needs is more felons, but Democrats seem determined to criminalize everything except actual crime. Now, the bill heads to the House, where Democrats will have another chance to turn more workers and business owners into criminals. Read more at Center Square.

Democrats Want Minors Making Life-Altering Decisions—No Questions Asked
Washington Senate Democrats are pushing a constitutional amendment to guarantee “gender-affirming care” and abortion rights—without any age restrictions. The vague language of SJR 8204 would enshrine access to puberty blockers and gender transition treatments for minors, leaving parents completely out of the equation. Republican leaders blasted the proposal, calling it an extreme overreach that grants unchecked medical rights to children. Senate Minority Leader John Braun pointed out that it also allows abortion up to the moment of birth, something most Washingtonians don’t support. House Deputy Minority Leader Chris Corry dismissed it as a “publicity stunt,” but if passed, it would permanently entrench radical policies in the state’s constitution. The resolution faces a steep climb, needing two-thirds support in both legislative chambers before voters even get a say. If Democrats succeed, parents may
find themselves sidelined in some of the most consequential decisions affecting their children’s lives. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.

Democrats Crack Down on Lawful Gun Owners—Criminals Still Unbothered
Washington Senate Democrats pushed through yet another anti-gun bill, expanding gun-free zones to parks and government buildings while doing nothing to stop actual criminals. The bill’s sponsor, Democrat Sen. Javier Valdez, at least had the sense to exempt concealed carry holders—but only after Republicans forced the issue. Once again, GOP lawmakers tried to add common-sense amendments, like giving lawful gun owners a warning before being thrown in jail for accidentally wandering into a gun-free zone. But Democrats weren’t interested in fairness, just more restrictions. GOP Sen. Phil Fortunato pointed out the obvious: criminals don’t follow gun-free zone signs, so the only people being targeted here are responsible gun owners. Two Democrats saw reason and voted against it, but the rest pushed it through anyway. Now it’s off to the House, where Democrats will get another chance to pretend they’re doing
something about public safety. Read more at Center Square.

Republican Legislative Victory: House Bill 1457 Passes House
House Bill 1457 marks a significant Republican-led victory in Washington’s Democrat-controlled legislature, ensuring greater community safety by mandating electronic monitoring of sexually violent predators granted conditional release. Spearheaded by Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, the bill passed unanimously in the House. The bill requires advanced ankle monitors with 24/7 tracking and immediate violation alerts, providing clear accountability and peace of mind for communities. Recent controversies over LRAs in Tenino and Enumclaw highlighted the urgent need for stronger safeguards, making this legislation both timely and necessary. HB 1457 directly addresses concerns raised by residents who have long opposed the placement of violent offenders in their neighborhoods with minimal supervision. By securing Democratic support, Republicans proved that real leadership on public safety comes from their side of the
aisle. Now, with the bill headed to the Senate, all eyes are on whether the Democrat-led chamber will follow through in prioritizing community protection. Read more at Center Square.

The Left Tried to Kill Signature Verification—The Court Said Nope
The Washington Supreme Court just delivered a dose of common sense, ruling that signature verification for mail-in ballots is constitutional. Left-wing groups, led by the Vet Voice Foundation, tried to argue that matching signatures disenfranchises voters—because apparently, verifying identities is just too much to ask. Their lawsuit claimed that signature checks unfairly impact young and minority voters, conveniently ignoring that election workers actually help
voters fix signature issues. The court wasn’t buying it, pointing out that the process already has an expansive cure system in place. Even under the strictest legal scrutiny, the justices found signature verification essential for election security – imagine that. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.
