Ivan Marovic
We're pleased to welcome Ivan Marovic, a master strategist in civil resistance and a trusted mentor to movements worldwide. As a co-founder of Otpor!, the Serbian youth movement that played a key role in toppling Slobodan Milošević, Ivan brings both firsthand experience and deep strategic insight into what it takes to challenge entrenched power.
Over the past two decades, he has worked with movements across the world, helping organizers refine their tactics, develop long-term strategies, and sustain momentum in the face of repression. His expertise has guided resistance efforts in diverse contexts—from authoritarian regimes to struggling democracies—equipping people with the tools they need to push for meaningful change.
In this workshop, Ivan will share lessons drawn from real-world struggles, focusing on how movements can adapt to shifting political conditions, outmaneuver repression, and build the kind of broad-based participation that makes resistance effective.
At a time when authoritarianism is rising and democratic spaces are shrinking, these insights are more valuable than ever. If you’re organizing, resisting, or simply looking to better understand how people power can shift the course of history, we believe this workshop can be supportive to you.
This event will be held virtually on Wednesday, March 12th.

Alexandra & Tom Piñeros Shields
We are honored to welcome Alexandra Piñeros Shields and Tom Piñeros Shields, whose work has redefined research as a tool for liberation by bridging scholarship and activism.
This workshop offers community organizations and scholars a unique opportunity to engage with their expertise in Participatory Action Research (PAR), a collaborative approach that uses collective, and self-reflective inquiry to challenge traditional hierarchies by centering the experiences of those most affected.
In many ways, the researched cease to be objects and become partners in the whole research process, sharing authority in knowledge-making, which can empower participants to shape outcomes and drive social change in their communities.
Whether you're looking to integrate research into your community work, improve the way you fund organizations, evaluate your programs, or reexamine research ethics, join us to see how PAR can serve as a transformative tool for liberation.
This event will be held at Ayni's Movement Training Center in Revere, MA.
