Trump loves to call himself a Law & Order president, but that is obviously absurd. His pardons of January 6th rioters were despicable, but just the beginning. In the weeks since, it’s become apparent that Trump wants to use the Justice Department as a tool to go after anyone who opposes him. Now, Trump is going after birthright citizenship laws with a new executive order. His administration is hellbent on targeting people of color or those who have a constitutional right to citizenship, and turns the other cheek when people break into and destroy our Capitol. This is not patriotism.

Hyper-politicizing the Justice Department has negative effects for the whole country, no matter what side of the aisle someone’s on. If the Justice Department is focused on finding law enforcement officials involved in the January 6th inquiry so they can fire them, real justice and cases that matter are set aside.

Now, the Justice Department has ordered their attorneys to investigate and prosecute law enforcement officials if they don’t enforce Trump’s new immigration policies - regardless of their legality. What makes America truly great is our system of checks and balances, and a justice system that doesn’t prosecute based on partisanship.
