Fellow activist,
In case you missed it, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, has recommended slashing the workforce at the Social Security Administration by HALF.
According to Newsweek, former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley has stated that these changes would result in a “system collapse and an interruption of benefits” within the next 30 to 90 days.
Here’s the thing: over 70 million people in the U.S. depend on these benefits, including retirees and people with disabilities. Despite Trump previously stating that he wouldn’t cut the program on the campaign trail, during his Congressional address, he peddled unfounded claims of fraud, with the backing of Elon Musk who has stated that Social Security is “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”
As stated by MSNBC, 1 in 5 people in the U.S. receive Social Security, and nearly all Americans pay into it via the payroll tax. It’s incredibly popular, and most Americans oppose any cuts to the program. Despite what Musk thinks, there is no evidence of widespread fraud. This is just another example of our government prioritizing billionaires over working people.
At the end of the day, these cuts to the Social Security Administration will affect all of us, whether we are paying into it now or are currently depending on receiving our hard-earned benefits to live. This is a stark reminder that we need leaders who will stand up for injustices and work to implement policies that will help the American people, not leaders who are in love with power grabs and only acting out of self-interest, harming the American people.
