During my State of the County Address, I announced WISE305(miamidade.gov/wise305), a bold new vision for an even more streamlined, efficient, and effective county government. WISE305 is our promise to maximize the value of your tax dollars and create a government that takes care of business for YOU, built on four core pillars:
Workplace Incentives: Empowering County employees to identify and eliminate inefficient rules and regulations that slow down operations.
Investments in Technology: Leveraging automation to modernize permitting systems and make it faster, easier, and less expensive to do business in and with the County.
Savings for Businesses and Residents: Consolidating services, eliminating redundancies, and leveraging strategic partnerships to maximize every dollar spent.
Efficiency Audit: Reviewing outdated policies with the Board of County Commissioners to cut red tape and sunset unnecessary regulations.
4 Years of Promises Kept
Since I made history as the first woman Mayor of Miami-Dade in 2020—and was re-elected last year—we’ve worked to make our county stronger, safer, and more affordable. As we head into March and celebrate Women’s History Month, I’m reminded that progress is about breaking barriers and delivering results. From housing to transit, small businesses to our environment, we’ve built a government that responds to our community’s needs today and tomorrow. In my second term, I’m more energized than ever to keep going. Our recent Promises Kept, Progress Made campaign celebrates how far we’ve come—and sets the course for what’s next. Check out my first term accomplishments at miamidade.gov/progress and watch the video series on YouTube. Let’s keep building a Miami-Dade that works for everyone!
Building a Future-Ready Community
MIA is Soaring to New Heights
I joined MIA’s year-in-review press conference to celebrate last year’s record-breaking numbers of 56 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo, making us #2 for international passengers and #1 for international cargo in the US, as well as #3 for cargo overall!
MIA has come very far since we launched the historic $9 billion Future-Ready MIA Plan in early 2024. In just one year, we have made tremendous progress fixing elevators, escalators, and walkways, upgrading conveyance units, restrooms, and boarding bridges, and breaking ground on a new 2,200-space parking garage. We’re also investing in our people through the "I AM MIA" customer service program, which has already trained over 1,300 employees to improve how our passengers and employees experience our airport from the cabin to the curve. Milestones in Affordable Housing
We continue tackling the housing crisis with the grand opening of Meridian Point at Goulds Station, a new mixed-income development that allows Cutler Manor residents to stay rooted in their neighborhood. And at Upland Park,
we’re building our largest transit-oriented development yet—connecting more people to opportunity. We’re delivering on our commitment to a more connected, future-ready Miami-Dade where everyone has a place to call home.
Innovating for a Greener Tomorrow
Miami-Dade County continues our journey to a more resilient future with the groundbreaking of the FPL Miami-Dade Clean Water Recovery Center. Through this innovative partnership with FPL, we’re taking a bold step by repurposing up to 15 million gallons of treated wastewater every day to help cool the Turkey Point Clean Energy Center.
Community Corner
Celebrating Black History Month
Throughout February, Miami-Dade County came together to celebrate the rich contributions and history of our Black community. We hosted our annual Food Truck and Vendor Fair, featuring local entrepreneurs, artists, and small businesses, conducted immersive bus tours that brought our past to life,
visited Black small businesses, hosted a roundtable with Black media, and released a report
on my administration’s investments in a thriving Black Miami-Dade.
Black history is Miami-Dade history – embedded in our food, music, neighborhoods, and the countless generations of leaders who’ve made Miami-Dade what it is today!
The Way of Water: Miami
As your Mayor and your Water Warrior, I was so thrilled that our Water and Sewer, Cultural Affairs, and Regulatory and Economic Resources departments brought our community together around water conservation and the arts at the premiere of The Way of Water: Miami. The show was an incredible collaboration between local artists, scientists, and County staff – and fun to watch too!
Outstanding County Service
I’m thrilled to celebrate three incredible members of my team who were recently recognized for their remarkable service to our community!
Michelle Johnson, our Faith and Community Leadership Manager, was honored at the Black History Gospel Music Brunch and Awards for her work in uniting faith leaders and community groups, making our County a more inclusive place.
Pat Morris, Director of Civic and Philanthropic Partnerships, received the Henry Raattama Community Champion award from PhilanthropyMiami for his lifetime of community leadership.
Cassandra Arnold, my Deputy Chief of Staff overseeing Equity and Engagement and Resident Services, was celebrated as one of the Top 50 Black Women in Business and Industry by MIA Media Group for her powerful role in driving Miami-Dade forward.
Peace & Prosperity Through Education
Exciting news for Miami-Dade students! The Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) Peace & Prosperity Empowerment through Education Scholarship, aimed at helping college-bound young adults affected by gun violence, is back for round 2! Last year, we awarded 75 scholarships of $2,500, each one empowering a student to pursue higher education. If you are, know, or are the parent of a Miami-Dade high school graduate planning to attend college,
apply online by March 23, 2025.
In Case You Missed It
Miami-Dade is home to one of the largest Haitian communities in the U.S., and this decision puts thousands of our families at risk.
I was honored to present the Key to the County to the incredible Dascha Polanco from Orange is the New Black!
Time and again, we have stood with the Venezuelan community as they rallied against the brutal Maduro regime.
Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! 🌎 Today, we celebrate the incredible ecosystems that sustain our environment, like Biscayne Bay and the Everglades.
My team, alongside Miami-Dade County staff from nine departments, proudly participated in the 48th Annual MLK Parade.
