Dear Friends,
I have been honored to serve as your Mayor, and if you’ll have me, I’m seeking my third and final term. In 2017, I explained that it would take my team and me 12 years to accomplish everything we would set out to do. We have accomplished a lot in these first seven years but have much to complete.
We have:
* Paid down the City’s debt, shored up the pensions, and turned fund deficits into surpluses
* Grown the city’s revolving loan funds from $6.25 million in 2018 to $25 million
* Created grant and loan programs for small businesses and homeowners
* Invested in scores of economic and community development initiatives such as EMI, Savocchio Opportunity Park, and the Eagle’s Nest Athletic Center
* NO tax increases for six straight years
* Decreased violent crime, with homicides down 57%
* Hit a record-low unemployment rate of 3.4 percent
* Helped to create more than 2,300 jobs and add 440 new employers
* Secured $120 million in federal and state grant funding in addition to $76 million in ARP funding
This funding has helped support city infrastructure, upgrades to our police and fire department equipment and technology, police salaries, neighborhood revitalization, and economic and community development initiatives. We have made excellent progress toward achieving our vision. Crime is down, jobs are up, and taxes have not increased for six years!
People ask why I am running for re-election, and it’s because we have many initiatives underway to finish. My goals for 2025 and beyond include continuing to:
* Improve the City’s finances
* Reduce crime
* Support our businesses
* Grow jobs
* Increase quality housing and homeownership
* Transform the Miller Brothers building into the new Public Safety Complex
* Implement city plans to reduce crash fatalities, expand pedestrian access, install bike lanes, preserve our history, and improve our parks
* Ensure the sustainability of community policing initiatives like the Police Athletic League and the COP initiative
We need your help to continue our mission! We are looking for volunteers to help to talk to voters about the Mayor and his teams accomplishments thus far and goals for his third term. If you are interested in volunteering with the campaign, you can sign up here ([link removed]) ! Second, as you know, campaigns are expensive. Every single dollar matters in local elections and I would be grateful for any donation you are able to make. You can donate online here ([link removed]) or mail a check to Committee to Elect Joe Schember, P.O. Box 927, Erie, PA 16512.
