Last night, I watched Donald Trump’s presidential address and… wow. It was a rambling, chaotic mess, but at every turn, there was one real point coming across. Under Donald Trump, the government doesn’t serve everyday people; it serves him and his fellow billionaires.

He talked a lot about the “waste” in social programs that support everyday people
...But had nothing to say about the hundreds of billions of dollars we spend subsidizing oil and gas companies.

He ranted and raved about unelected bureaucrats after a month
...While Elon Musk has been rampaging through the federal government dismantling programs with no oversight.

We know watching this administration is overwhelming. That’s why we are building the only thing that can challenge these billionaires: a mass movement of people demanding our government serve us. Some of our elected officials stood strong in opposing Trump and making an opposing vision clear. Sen. Bernie Sanders delivered his own competing video for America’s future. Rep. Al Green was ejected from the address after his vocal protest. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded live on social media.

But by and large, it’s going to be up to movements to fight back. That’s why we’re organizing young people in schools and cities across the United States to fight back.

Sunrise members are planning dozens of teach-ins around the country to bring people together and strategize about how we fight back. Later this month, we’ll be taking action to demand Members of Congress of both parties vote NO on Trump’s billionaire handout bill. We need our government to be spending money averting the climate crisis, not subsidizing the fossil fuel executives who got us into this mess.

In particular, we’ll be putting pressure on House Republicans in swing districts who are facing tough re-election fights in 2026. We only need three Republican Representatives to vote no to sink Trump’s agenda.
