John,
This week, we’re learning that Donald Trump and Elon Musk have laid off
around 1,000 National Park Service employees—around 5% of the agency’s
workforce.
Our parks have already been struggling to accommodate the hundreds of
millions of visitors each year. Trump’s attack on federal workers moves us
in the exact wrong direction.
Yes, there will be longer lines, more trash, and dirtier bathrooms. But,
it’s also going to be a lot more dangerous than that.
Less trail maintenance means that they will be less safe for visitors.
Fewer staffers means fewer small fires getting put out, increasing the
risk that they grow into big blazes.
In Congress, I served on the committee with jurisdiction over our public
lands. One of my priorities was listening to and learning from the amazing
park staff, who chose those careers because they believe in safeguarding
our national treasures for all to enjoy.

Trump’s callous dismantling of the federal workforce is a slap in the face
to those dedicated public servants. He is putting visitors’ lives at risk.
He is threatening communities across this country, whose local economies
rely on tourism and conservation.
[ [link removed] ]We need to hold the Trump Administration accountable for making us all
less safe—from national parks, to air traffic control, to cybersecurity.
Will you chip in to my PAC, Truth to Power, so that we have the resources
to get this message to voters and so they don’t forget when they head to
the ballot box in 2026?
Thanks for all you do,
Katie
