Newsletter of the Goethe-Institut Washington

Dear friends,

As we head further into the summer, it's wild to believe that we've been physically apart from our colleagues, family, friends, and other social outlets for nearly three months. We hope that this newsletter finds you safe and healthy in both body and mind, and we feel privileged to at least continue presenting to you new virtual offerings that our team continues to work on tirelessly each day.

If you are interested in taking a German course this June, check out what our colleagues have to offer in Blended Learning classes and discount codes. Our friends in German-language educational outreach are taking a break for the summer with their Green Kinderacademy lecture series, but their past recorded lectures remain available for viewing.

We are excited to announce that our popular Watch-Klatsch series on Babylon Berlin will continue through Season Two! Jump right in on June 18 with our discussion of Season Two, Episodes 1-3 – and, if you are looking for a rewatch or a refresher on any of our previous four conversations, all of our recordings are available on our YouTube channel as well. Our Goethe Book Club also remains digital this summer and we encourage you to pick up some new books and dive in!

Best,
The Goethe-Institut Washington Team

Digital Festival: "Latitude"

The global Goethe-Institut invites you to the digital festival “Latitude,” a three-day program comprised of artistic contributions and debates. The focus is on the effect of existing colonial structures today and how they can be overcome. Join us via livestream and chat.

The festival is organized into five broad thematic areas, each addressing the continuities of colonial structures: financial inequality, racism, identity and memory, dealing with material culture, and finally, digital equality on a global level.

“Das Boot”: Plumbing the depths of wartime romanticism

Not really the thing for landlubbers: the series “Das Boot” is a brutally honest portrayal of the unrelenting horrors of the Second World War. In this series, it is not only hostile Navy personnel but also the Gestapo and the French resistance who are fighting a war within the war.
