Hey everyone,
Sorry I’ve been MIA lately. After running for four years straight, I needed some time to decompress. As exhausted as everyone is with the news cycles, political cycles, and everything we keep up with, I’m just as tired—maybe even more.
So, I’ve been taking some time to recharge and get motivated again. But I wanted to send this email to let you know I’m still here and still paying attention. Even though I’m not actively out there engaging right now, I’m here in spirit.
That said, I’ve been getting a lot of messages about senators and congressmen simply not showing up. They’re not answering calls, they’re not returning messages, and they’re not holding town halls—at a time when people have serious questions that need answers. That is not what they were elected to do.
One of the main reasons I ran for Congress is because I believe Congress is broken. Too many representatives don’t actually serve the people—they serve big interests, billionaires, lobbyists, super PACs, and every special interest you can name. I wanted to be there for you. Whether you liked me or not, agreed with me or not, I was always going to show up, answer questions, and explain what was going on—because representing the people of Ohio’s 7th District was my priority. Right now, representation is more crucial than ever.
We can’t just sit back and hope things turn out the way we want. We must demand that our representatives show up, answer questions, and communicate with the people they were elected to serve.
I think it’s more important than ever to go back to DiemerForCongress.com and take another look at our platform. The undemocratic way our elected officials operate—putting money over politics, profit over people, and the powerful few over the hardworking backbone of this country—is more apparent than ever.
We need a complete overhaul of campaign finance and a fundamental restructuring of how influence is wielded in Washington, D.C., and in our statehouses. If that doesn’t happen, I fear we’ll continue sliding into an era where the Gilded Age looks like a utopia of equality by comparison.
Finally, please stay optimistic and keep looking toward the future—because the next elections are our opportunity to create real change.
Feel free to reach out and let me know what’s on your mind. I’d love to hear from you—your ideas, your thoughts on current events, and your suggestions for our district and for me moving forward.
Talk soon,
Matt
