John, Donald Trump, Elon Musk and DOGE’s cuts to our government are a disaster for Veterans and slap in the face to all who were brave enough to have served.
Trump and Musk have fired thousands of Veterans across the government, and have cut more than 2,000 jobs at the VA alone—actions that will not make things “more efficient” as they claim, but will instead make it harder for Veterans to get the care they need.
That means longer wait times, staffing shortages and fewer beds available at VA hospitals—all just so Trump and Musk can give even bigger tax breaks to their billionaire friends.
They even cut Veterans working at the Veterans Crisis Line—public servants doing the incredibly difficult work of supporting our heroes in their darkest hour. I worked hard to force them to reinstate these specific workers, and I’m proud that our advocacy made them do just that—but far too many other Veterans are still left out in the cold, without a paycheck, without a job.
That’s unacceptable.
So let’s be clear about what this is: It is a middle finger to our heroes. It is disrespectful to the sacrifices they have made and it is an insult to every one of us who has served. All so the billionaires can line their own pockets.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk may not know the first thing about sacrifice and service. But our Veterans sure as hell do.
I will never stop fighting for our heroes, no matter who’s in the White House.
