John,
I walked out of Trump’s speech to the joint session of Congress last night. I want to tell you why.
Please watch this quick video message on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or BlueSky, and let me know what you think in the comments:

I finally walked out when Trump spoke about DJ, a 13-year-old boy who survived brain cancer. The President made DJ an honorary Secret Service member. The room applauded.
Here’s what he didn’t say: Trump and Republicans in Congress are working to cut nearly a TRILLION dollars from Medicaid, a program that keeps sick kids and kids with disabilities alive.
Yes, we should be celebrating DJ’s story. But to use a cancer survivor as a prop and an applause line while gutting healthcare for millions of kids like him — and kids like my sister — was beyond the pale for me.
I will continue using every tool available to fight for working people: Our healthcare, safety net, and fundamental rights.
Please take a minute to watch and share my message on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or BlueSky. I appreciate your support, activism, and feedback.
Thank you so much 💙
— Emily
