John,
Trump and his administration like to claim that they’re prioritizing military readiness, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
I’m a former Navy officer and Under Secretary of Defense, and I was also the Pentagon’s first ever Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. And as a current member of the House Armed Services Committee, I’m concerned about the direction our country is headed.
From a foreign policy perspective, Trump is cozying up to our enemies and jeopardizing relationships with longstanding U.S. allies in the process. From instigating trade wars to suspending military aid, our international neighbors won’t take kindly to being bullied into submission by Trump and his administration.
Here at home, Trump’s discriminatory policies strike at the heart of military readiness itself. Our military’s effectiveness depends on its ability to attract and retain the best qualified individuals—something the Trump administration is making exceedingly difficult.
Donald Trump fundamentally misunderstands what makes our Armed Forces strong, and our nation and its service members deserve better.
Donald Trump needs a lesson in what it truly means to serve your country, John.
In the military, it doesn’t matter where you come from—you work together to get the job done no matter what.
I’m working hard every day in Congress to battle back against his destructive agenda, but we need to send a message that his hatred has no place here. Will you chip in what you can today to stand with our service members and stand against Trump’s policies that move our nation backward?

In service,
Rep. Gil Cisneros
|
As an officer in the U.S. Navy, education nonprofit leader, Congressman, and Under Secretary of Defense, Gil Cisneros has dedicated his life to service, taking action, and getting results for people. From helping open doors of opportunity to San Gabriel Valley students through providing college scholarships, to standing up to the Gun Lobby in Congress, to protecting the right to comprehensive reproductive care for stationed service members while at the Pentagon, Gil has always stood up for his community and California values.
The son of a public school cafeteria worker and a Vietnam veteran, and the grandson of WWII veterans, Gil understood the importance of public service. After graduating high school, Gil enlisted in the U.S. Navy, driven by a desire to serve his nation and a determination to carve out a brighter future. He earned an ROTC Scholarship and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from George Washington University. Gil also holds an MBA from Regis University and M.A. in Urban Education Policy from Brown University.
After the election of Donald Trump, Gil could not sit on the sidelines – he ran for California’s 39th Congressional District and won with the support of middle-class families and labor unions.
Now with MAGA extremists running the House of Representatives, Gil is looking to stand up for the San Gabriel Valley and continue his mission of service, advocating for veterans, gun safety reform, economic opportunity for working families, climate action, and defending women’s rights.
