Over the weekend, the New York Times released a powerful interview with Governor Healey that laid out her plans to stand up for Massachusetts against Trump, Musk, and their destructive intentions for our democracy.

 

Governor Healey knows this ball game. As our Attorney General during Trump’s first term, she led the charge against so many of his illegal activities, and she’s used to the tactics he uses to try and distract the public from them. Just recently, Trump publicly confronted Maine Governor Janet Mills for following the laws of her state- and Governor Healey knows he’s doing this to “distract everyone from the fact that [his] poll numbers are tanking, people don’t like what Elon Musk and DOGE are doing”.

 

Our Governor won’t let Trump distract her from always acting in the interest of the people of Massachusetts. Here’s some more important messages from her interview:

  • Governor Healey made it clear that though she’s wary of the actions the Trump administration has taken so far, her first priority will always be the wellbeing of our state; “If the president is going to work and support the state of Massachusetts, I will work with the president and the federal administration. When he is not, then I will be the first to stand up and fight for the people of Massachusetts”. 
  • While Trump, Musk, and their cronies make backdoor deals that only benefit their wealthy buddies, Democrats will continue to be the party of the working class: “As Democrats, our North Star needs to be standing up for everyday Americans”.
  • She also spoke extensively about being motivated to work on behalf of all of us: "I became governor because I care about people. I want to serve people. I want to see the people in Massachusetts served. My colleagues I have the privilege of working with, the Democratic governors, believe in America, believe in the needs, the wants of everyday Americans".

We’ve always known that our Commonwealth has a powerful fighter in Governor Healey. We’re proud to have her as our voice on the national stage, taking the GOP to task at every turn.
