VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump drones on and on in dumpster fire address to Congress
Donald Trump showcased his complete inability to shut the f*ck up by delivering the longest address to Congress in American history while managing to say nothing new, productive, or even resembling the truth. We won't bore you with the details; if you've heard one Trump speech, you've heard them all. Flowery promises of the greatness to come that never materialize, a barrage of preposterous lies about everyone who opposes him or qualifies as a convenient scapegoat, zero discussion of the chaos and damage that his administration has caused in just six weeks, and so on and so forth. The highlights of the evening were the acts of defiance from Democrats; Rep. Al Green was forcibly removed from the hall after standing up and condemning Trump's attacks on Medicaid, causing much finger-wagging and snooty tut-tutting from Very Serious Beltway Media Figures who somehow STILL don't get it, while a slew of Democrats walked out of the building during Trump's very, very brief discussion of Ukraine, held up protest signs, and turned their backs to the MAGA cult leader, showing the word "RESIST" printed there. The whole night can be summed up by Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who told reporters, "This is not America. This is a terrible nightmare. Somebody slap me and wake me the f*ck up because I'm ready to get on with it."

Ronald Reagan is "rolling in his grave," Sen. Elissa Slotkin says in Democratic response to Trump
Sen. Elissa Slotkin delivered the official response to Trump's speech, and did a great job hammering Trump on rising prices, neglecting the American people, and creating chaos around the world. But when it came to the foreign policy section, she bizarrely decided that the moment really called for some praise for — checks notes — Ronald Reagan. "After the spectacle that just took place in the Oval Office last week, Reagan must be rolling in his grave...As a Cold War kid, I'm thankful it was Reagan and not Trump in office in the 1980s. Trump would have lost us the Cold War." Democrats, it's time to stop talking about Ronald frickin' Reagan. Where to begin? He bungled the HIV/AIDS crisis and cruelly dehumanized a generation of LGBTQ people in the process, kicked off the GOP's wildly irresponsible deregulation crusade that is still wreaking immense havoc more than 40 years later, and somehow would also be run out of today's Republican Party as some sort of RINO pariah. Sen. Bernie Sanders, representing actual progressives, delivered his own response on Twitter in which he predictably cut right to the core of the issue: the United States has been taken over by oligarchs. "The Trump administration is not hiding it. The Trump administration is a government of the billionaire class, by the billionaire class, and for the billionaire class. Notwithstanding some of their rhetoric, this is a government that could care less about ordinary Americans and the working families of our country. My friends, we are no longer moving toward oligarchy. We are living in an oligarchic society." Hear, hear!

BTC leads collective of progressive creators with plan to take back the internet from Joe Rogan and the right-wing machine
Chorus: This election has made it painfully clear that Democrats' messages are just not getting through the tsunami of right-wing propaganda and lies flooding through social media, and we have no real answer to a Joe Rogan or a Ben Shapiro...until now! Chorus Collective is a new collaborative founded by creators like Brian Tyler Cohen, Leigh McGowan (Politics Girl), Roland Martin, David Pakman, Elizabeth Booker Houston, and Adam Mockler, who are bringing their audience of 40 million people together to create a new infrastructure to scale their voices and build support for more creators like them. Chorus aims to not only amplify progressive voices but also uplift new creators and build a left-wing social media ecosystem that supports its voices ALL the time, not just in the months leading up to an election. Will you chip in to help Chorus get off the ground and help break the right-wing stranglehold on social media?
Trudeau tells Americans: "Your government has chosen to do this to you"
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who very much has had enough of Donald's bullshit, addressed the American people directly in an angry and frustrated speech as Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods went into effect. "Canadians are reasonable and we are polite, but we will not back down from a fight, not when our country and the well being of everyone in it is at stake...We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally, and we don't want to see you hurt either, but your government has chosen to do this to you...It’s not in my habit to agree with The Wall Street Journal, but Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do. We two friends fighting is exactly what our opponents around the world want to see

Republicans risk hard-liner revolt in latest gambit to avoid a shutdown
Welcome back to another edition of Shutdown Watch, where the forecast is very cloudy with a high chance of even more shit storms. With just 10 days left to go before another federal shutdown, the GOP has made zero progress in advancing a budget resolution that passes the camel of Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy through the needle of Freedom Caucus budget cuts. With no end in sight, the MAGA cult leader is personally lobbying House Republicans to support a "full-year" stopgap funding measure to keep the military and non-defense agencies running on static budgets through September, which would require a unanimous Republican vote to pass since the Democrats are in no mood to bail the GOP out of their own dysfunction. But getting the entire GOP clown caucus of radical ideologues and self-serving jackals to agree on anything is practically impossible...so, yeah, this either ends in a shutdown or yet another temporary continuing resolution to kick the can even further down the road.

Who, this guy? Why would anyone think that?
Sen. Ernst ensnared in tawdry sexting scandal with promiscuous general
A new ProPublica report has revealed that Maj. Gen. Christopher Finerty has had "highly" inappropriate romantic relationships with at least five women, including three who worked on Capitol Hill. One of those women, it turns out, is Republican Sen. Joni Ernst, who it appears is quite fond of naughty text messages. While a bit of hanky panky between consenting adults isn't a big deal, Finerty's colleagues were appalled at the ethical implications of it and how much influence it gave the Air Force in the Senate. "I honestly felt sick to my stomach," one said, "because it just felt so sleazy." Sen. Ernst is on the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, which oversees the Pentagon and plays a crucial role in setting its annual budget, so it's obvious to see how this could be very problematic. Of course, this is a Republican controlled Senate, so expect zero consequence or even acknowledgement of yet another ethical scandal.

No more in-person town halls, NRCC chief tells House Republicans
After a slew of embarrassing town halls in which Republicans in safe red districts have been confronted by Americans furious at the gutting of the federal government and the mass layoffs instituted by DOGE ding dong Elon Musk, the RNC chair has come up with a novel solution: ignore your constituents! Really speaks to how popular their agenda is that the GOP has to hide from their own voters less than two months into Donald Trump's second term!
Trump cuts off all intelligence sharing with Ukraine
The overtly pro-Russian Trump administration has followed up the suspension of all aid to Ukraine with the double whammy of cutting off all their intelligence support, which could seriously hamper Ukraine's ability to target Russian forces. Just one more knife in a back that is already full of them.
