Hi everyone.
Last night I gave the official response to President Trump’s Joint Address. I hope you had a chance to watch. If not, here's a link to it on YouTube.
Since most people don't know me like you do, I introduced myself and just kept it straight with the people watching about the moment we are in right now.
We just went through another fraught election season. Americans made it clear that they want change. But there is a responsible way to make change, and a reckless way. And, we can make that change without forgetting who we are as a country, and as a democracy.
Because no matter where you live, most Americans share three core beliefs: That the middle class is the engine of our country. That strong national security protects us from harm. And that our democracy, no matter how messy, is unparalleled and worth fighting for.
We all know that our country is going through something right now. We’re not sure what the next day is going to hold, let alone the next decade.
But this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced this as a country. Every single time, we’ve gotten through those moments because of two things: Engaged citizens and principled leaders.
Every day I will fight to be the kind of principled leader the people who elected me deserve, and it's a message I hope to carry with me as I campaign for others next fall.
If you're with me in that fight, I have an ask of you:
