Dear WIIS Colleagues,

I hope this email finds you well. This month, we are celebrating International Women's Day and the start of the UN's 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) with a new membership promotional: 10% off for new members when they join before March 31st. [[link removed]]

WIIS Global is also delighted to have received another grant from the Pritzker Military Foundation for the The Fight to Fight, a documentary about the women who became the first to integrate U.S. Army combat units in 2016. Learn more about the filmmakers' work here [[link removed]].

Finally, WIIS Global is proud to welcome the newly launched WIIS Albania into our network. We wish them the best as they work towards advancing women’s leadership and equality in international peace and security.

CSW69 Side Event: "Past Reflections and Future Visioning on the 25th Anniversary

of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda" | WIIS Global

Date: March 12, 2025Details: As part of its "1325 at 25" initiative marking the upcoming 25th anniversary of the WPS agenda, WIIS will co-host a side event with the International Peace Institute on the margins of CSW69. The event will convene the Minister of Defense and Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity from the Government of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes, as well as high-level UN and government officials in a closed-door roundtable. The discussion will engage these leaders in future visioning around the WPS agenda, determining a path forward for the next 25 years. Pre-Register [[link removed]]

Seminar on Cybersecurity and Digital Journalism | WIIS Spain

Date: March 17, 18, 20, 24, and 26, 2025Details: WIIS Spain will collaborate with Complutense University's Faculty of Journalism to host seminars on cybersecurity and digital journalism. The seminars will focus on geopolitics, cybersecurity, disinformation, hybrid threats, cyberspace, intelligence, online communication, and the role of journalists in international conflicts, among other issues. “The Ethical Failure: Gender Exploitation and Moral Accountability in UN Peacekeeping Operations” | by Meherun Nesa (WIIS Global)

Summary: In this article, WIIS Global member Meherun Nesa maps existing UN policies around peacekeeping conduct, particularly around sexual exploitation and abuse. She examines the gendered impacts and consequences of peacekeeping missions using MONUSCO as the central case study. From there, she explores what must change to ensure that peacekeeping missions protect, rather than exploit, the vulnerable populations they serve.

Walk the Line Director Discussion | WIIS Global

Date: February 13, 2025Summary: WIIS Global, Radio Free Asia, and 歪脑WHYNOT hosted a discussion with the directors of the documentary Walk the Line, Vivian Lee and Alicia Chen. Following the stories of Chinese migrants crossing the Darién Gap to reach the U.S., Lee and Chen shared their experience as women filmmakers, conveyed the challenges of women and LGBTQ+ individuals making this treacherous journey, and highlighted the resilience of the people they met along the way.

Date: February 14 to 16, 2025WIIS Women’s Hour: Geopolitics in a Changing World - Café Luitpold, MunichWIIS Germany held a Women’s Hour event, where they had the honor of hosting Irene Fellin, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for WPS, and founder of WIIS Italy (2016), alongside Ambassador Bettina Cadenbach, Germany’s Ambassador to Brazil, for a lively discussion on how emerging powers like Brazil are shaping international diplomacy. Additionally, Evika Silina, Latvia’s Prime Minister, joined this exclusive gathering of WIIS members and international security experts, fostering fresh perspectives and strategic dialogue on key geopolitical challenges.Welcome Reception: Women Political Leaders, Champions, and Allies – In Partnership with Women Political Leaders (WPL) – Gelber Salon, Hotel Bayerischer HofOpening the Munich Security Conference 2025, the reception with WPL set the stage for inclusive discussions on global security. Contributions from Silvana Koch-Mehrin (WPL), Anna Sophie Herken, and Obiageli Ezekwesili highlighted how women leaders are driving conflict resolution, peacebuilding, humanitarian efforts, and cyber resilience.
