Trump on his 'swift and unrelenting' start
President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress was a prime-time opportunity to tout his administration’s “swift and unrelenting action” in the first weeks of his second term.

Alongside a recounting of his many executive actions and early achievements, Trump said his administration was “just getting started.” He delivered his speech hours after escalating U.S. tariffs on some of America’s top trading partners. And he praised the work of Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, which has laid off thousands of federal workers.

He also goaded the Democrats in the audience. This included mocking them over not supporting his tax plan and calling former President Joe Biden the "worst president in American history.”

Many Democrats chose to silently protest Trump, with some wearing “Resist” shirts or holding up signs or walking out. One Texas Democrat interrupted the president at the top of his speech.
