Team, I just walked out of the House chamber during Trump’s speech. And I wanted to send you a quick note explaining why.

Look, you know as well as I do how wrong and destructive everything we’ve seen these last two months has been.

With the support of his unelected Co-President, Elon Musk, Trump has put thousands of essential workers out of a job and threatened the livelihood of businesses, farmers, and rural communities across the country.

He’s attempted to steal trillions of dollars from the American people and give it to billionaires instead in the form of massive tax breaks.

He’s plunged us into a reckless trade war that is already making life harder for our families.

He’s abandoned our allies in favor of dictators who want nothing more than to see America destroyed.

I could not, in good conscience, remain in the House Chamber while Trump spewed lies and ignored reality. I could not sit there and participate as he continued to undermine the separation of powers and attack working families.

So, in protest, I decided to leave the Chamber and get back to work fighting for the people of Oregon’s Sixth District.

And that’s what I’m going to continue to do, every single day, in every way I can, for as long as I have the privilege of serving. I’m going to fight for you, and I’m going to keep fighting until we win.
