John,
Shortly, Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress for the first time in his second term.
We don’t need to tell you what a dangerous tornado his administration has been so far. From dismantling our federal infrastructures to torpedoing resources for working families to sabotaging relationships with our closest foreign allies, he’s created a new disaster every day.
But this flurry of chaos isn’t accidental.
His strategy to ‘Flood the Zone’ hijacks the news cycle and diverts attention from state politicians pushing increasingly extreme legislation.
At least eleven states have recently introduced bills that would pave the way for criminal penalties for abortion patients or providers.
Other states have introduced bills to reclassify abortion medication as a controlled substance, jeopardizing care for both abortion and miscarriage patients.
And even in states that recently passed ballot measures protecting abortion rights, MAGA-aligned politicians are doing everything they can to delay implementation and destroy abortion access through loopholes.
All the while, abortion bans continue to have a catastrophic effect on medical care for everyone, with a heartbreaking recent report exposing an explosion of sepsis rates among pregnant patients in Texas, where doctors are more likely to delay miscarriage care under threat of criminal penalty.
Of course, Trump won’t mention any of this from the podium tonight. He’ll repeat cruel applause lines, spread misinformation, and give MAGA Congress members another chance to kiss the ring.
As the resistance to his second term continues to build, we all have a role to play, and we’re laser-focused on ours.
The fight for our reproductive freedom continues to run through the states, where we’re fighting back against extremist lawmakers, with several key electoral victories already won in 2025. There are thousands more elections this year and next, and every single one is an opportunity to build back our pro-choice power.
We won’t let anti-choice operatives take cover under Trump’s chaos: the stakes are too high.
Thank you for staying with us,
