Let’s talk about Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, John.

Trump’s outburst in the Oval Office last week was more than just a temper tantrum — it’s a clear demonstration of what motivates this president: a fixation on power and dominance.

Trump and his allies appear to be under the impression that to be a strong leader, everyone else needs to shut up and fall in line. That’s why he fawns over dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. It’s why he obsesses over crowd sizes and calls opponents names like “Little Marco.”

This is more than your typical machismo or toxic masculinity. It’s a deeply ingrained obsession with power and superiority and it impacts more than international diplomacy.

Take climate policy for example. Instead of seeking real energy independence, Trump recently established a “National Energy Dominance Council” by executive order. Instead of addressing the climate crisis, we get a reckless, chest-thumping excuse to keep fossil fuel companies in control and our planet on fire.

If the people in power are motivated by domination instead of decency, the road to peace, prosperity, and climate action will always hit a dead end.

That’s why at the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, we take immense pride in fighting to elect leaders with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and — above all — a desire to serve the people, not control them.

Take Rep. Maxwell Frost — Gen Z’s first member of Congress, who is bringing fresh ideas and a deep commitment to climate justice. These are the leaders we need. Empathetic. Bold. Unafraid. And servants for the people — not their own egos.
