Good Evening,

It's Tuesday, March 4th.

Tariffs Take Effect

President Trump’s 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada took effect first thing Tuesday. Canada responded with plans to impose 25% tariffs on about $100 billion of U.S. imports, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying Trump is acting in "bad faith" and the U.S. president threatening more tariffs.

Mexico's president said it would also retaliate, with a range of moves to be announced Sunday, as the WSJ reports.

Zelensky Offers Terms

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine on Tuesday offered a course of action that he said could end the war, while trying to assure the Trump administration that his government was dedicated to peace, as the NYT reports.

Arab Leaders Summit

Arab leaders flocked to Egypt’s new administrative capital Tuesday for an emergency summit that aims to produce a unified stance on the future of the Gaza Strip, as The Washington Post reports.

Happy Mardi Gras to all! Today, of course, is Fat Tuesday (or Mardi Gras day as locals call it). To celebrate, here’s a great clip of the first musical family of New Orleans, the Neville Brothers, at Jazz Fest in 1990. I was lucky enough to attend this performance and it is unforgettable!
