Hi John, it’s Josh.
A lot has happened so far this year, so I wanted to take a moment to fill you in on what’s going on in Washington and how I’ve been getting to work in Congress to fight for you.
Over the past few weeks, I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of news about Elon Musk and DOGE. Musk has tried to completely hijack our government – threatening to freeze critical federal funds and gaining access to some of our most sensitive information.
It’s bullshit, and I won’t stand for it. An unelected billionaire shouldn't have this much power in Washington, so I’ve been fighting back. I’ve backed bills that will get Musk out of our country’s payment systems, ensure that anyone trusted with sensitive information has to have a security clearance and zero conflicts of interest, and require full transparency into what DOGE is doing.
Last week, I also voted against the GOP’s budget proposal. While House Republicans are fine with slashing spending on vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP just to give more tax cuts to billionaires, I sure as hell am not.
I came to Congress to make life better and more affordable for Upstate New Yorkers, not to give the wealthy, the powerful, or big corporations another break while everyday folks pay the cost.
That’s why I’m proud of the bills I’ve already sponsored, including one that will help families make home improvements and save up to $400 a year on their utility bills and another that will provide support for farmers and lower grocery prices in the wake of the bird flu.
John, it’s been a busy few weeks, but we’re just getting started. I look forward to sharing more updates about our work with you soon.
With gratitude & high hopes,
Josh
