Dear John, In a big win for our trans loved ones and their families, a harmful and discriminatory bill that would have excluded transgender, nonbinary, and intersex youth from school athletics programs was defeated in the Senate today. Thanks to you and thousands of others in the PFLAG community, another piece of the anti-trans agenda was defeated! Advocates like you urged lawmakers to vote NO on this discriminatory bill. Dozens of chapters and PFLAG National signed-on to a letter of opposition authored by our partners at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and PFLAG’s social channels and Policy Matters newsletter kept up a constant drumbeat of information. Let’s celebrate this win. Support PFLAG National with a gift to advance our advocacy work and help defeat the barrage of attacks on our LGBTQ+ loved ones. Every student deserves the chance to be part of a team, to be with their friends, and to learn skills to be a good sport on and off the playing field. Denying transgender, nonbinary, and intersex youth the chance to participate steals these and other vital learning opportunities from these kids and all children. Thanks to you and people like you, though, the efforts to harm and exclude transgender youth are being stopped – and we have to keep up the momentum. With President Trump’s plan to address Congress tonight, which will no doubt spew misinformation and harmful attacks against our LGBTQ+ loved ones, today’s victory reminds us that every voice matters – and when we speak out, we win. |
