If you haven’t heard the news, here it is: President Donald Trump singled out Gov. Janet Mills at the White House and threatened to withhold federal funding from Maine – and she told him she'll see him in court.

This fight is bigger than one state. This November and in 2026, there are 38 governors’ races on the ballot – and we can’t lose all our hard-fought progress as Trump continues his stampede on our rights. Team, Democratic governors hoped for a constructive discussion about bringing down costs, strengthening our response to natural disasters, and ensuring they can keep delivering progress in the states.

But President Trump made clear that he had no intention of using the meeting at the White House to find common ground. Instead, he chose to point fingers, engage in ugly personal attacks and threats, and push unfounded conspiracy theories.

Democratic governors are standing up to attacks on our freedoms every single day. And they won’t be intimidated by his threats.
