Friend,

My colleagues and I were back in Albany this week, fighting hard for the policies we need to carry us through this crisis and working towards recovery.

We are already making progress.

Last night, my bill, S 8427 [[link removed]] , which guarantees death benefits to the families of public servants who have died of COVID-19, passed and will be sent to the Governor to sign. We have a responsibility to make sure that the families of public servants who gave up everything are cared for. We can't afford to add financial strain to the grief they are already experiencing.

Since the beginning of this crisis, we have lost hundreds of public servants who answered the call of duty and lost their lives for it, more than we’ve lost since 9/11. We honor the memory of these fallen heroes by making sure that there is nothing standing in the way of their families receiving what they are owed.

Though this bill is an important step, we still have so much to do to make sure that the families of those who have suffered a loss during this pandemic are taken care of. As long as I am in Albany, I’m going to continue to fight for our workers and their families, who are putting their lives on the line.

I encourage you to read the New York Daily News article about our work in Albany and our success passing this necessary bill for essential workers and their families: [link removed]

I hope you and your family are continuing to stay safe and practice social distancing. Our community’s strength has gotten us far during this crisis, and I am confident that it will drive us towards a strong recovery.

If there's anything I can do to help you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Yours,

Andrew
