I want to tell you a story about our campaign, John.
It’s a story about the kind of resilience that helped us flip a Republican seat blue in 2018. It’s a story about a coalition of organizations and people who demanded a representative that would stand with the people when it came to issues that mattered, like protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act and getting corporate money out of politics.
It’s a story about you.
We won a major victory in 2018. But this campaign is once again facing an opponent fueled by the same dark money and corporate interests we defeated two years ago. The fact is, John, our opponent is in a better position than ever before. And the Republicans flipping a seat red in California a few weeks ago has emboldened them to target more and more seats -- including ours.
That’s why I’m writing today about our May fundraising goal.
Here’s the thing, John -- the monthly fundraising goals we set determine how well our grassroots campaign will be able to compete with our opposition. Hitting our goal month-after-month has helped us navigate the transition to digital campaigning and allowed us to amplify our message of fighting for the working families of CA-39.
I know we can win again in 2020 and keep this seat blue for generations to come. I know that we can keep Gil in Congress so he can continue fighting for our families by protecting and expanding access to health care and building an economy that works for everyone. But we can’t do any of that if we don’t have you by our side.
